Masculine / Feminine: Beauty in art from the 17th century to the present day

from 17 September 2024 to 08 March 2025

The Tomaselli Collection invites you to discover the exhibition “Masculin / Féminin: la beauté du XVIIème siècle à nos jours” (Masculine / Feminine: beauty from the 17th century to the present day), which runs from September 17, 2024 to March 8, 2025.

While Renaissance artists truly invented the body, exploring not only anatomy but also movement and expression, painters and draftsmen from the 17th century to the present day have continued
to vary these representations. The changes in the body with advancing age have fascinated artists, who have endeavored to depict the mark of the passage of time on the bodies of their models. The exhibition also allows visitors to observe the nude body in its ideal proportions inherited from Antiquity, but also the body in its Symbolist variations, modern conceptions and contemporary representations.

With works by Louis Appian, Jean-Baptiste Chatigny, Marie-France Chevalier, Jean Couty, Marcellin Desboutin, Fleury Épinat, Hippolyte Flandrin, Jean-Baptiste Frénet, Jean-Michel Grobon, Louis Janmot,
